Valentine's for him is always tricky tricky! Whenever I think of Valentine's day it is pink, red, purple with hearts and other girly things. I recently bought Making a Monster from Stampin' Up! and I thought it would be cute to make a card for my son and husband using that set.
Here is what I made!
I used the the trifold shutter card tutorial over at Splitcoast Stampers. If you have not gone through their tutorials over there, I HIGHLY recommend them. They are always thoughtfully done and you can create some pretty cool stuff!
I used my Martha Stewart score board (another must have) to fold and cut the card. Instead of cutting the T shape piece of paper for the front and back as the tutorial recommends, I used two pieces of paper (a lot less measuring) and used my handy ol' crimper to create the red areas.
I love this type of card because there is so much to embellish. I stamped the monsters with Stampin' Up!s Basic Black (which is waterproof) and used the blender pens and stamp pads to color in the monsters. I love that technique because it saves me a lot of money (ha!) since I don't have to buy the matching SU markers when all I need is the stamp pads and the blender pens. I press down on the TOP of the stamp pads and use the blender pens to pick up the color that gets pressed on the top of the pads. Works like a charm!
I used the Stampin' Ups I {Heart} Hearts for the heart backgrounds and various other hearts. I made the little envelopes that the monsters are sending to their loves just by cutting little rectangles and drawing the envelope flap. The polka dot like background was done using an embellishment from the monster stamp set.
I wanted to share my inspiration for my cards this year. My wonderful children. I thank my lucky stars everyday to be a part of their lives. They are truly amazing creatures. (More about the layout to the right)If you want to see another card that I made for Valentine's Day for my daughter, check out this post. But not before moving on through the hop!
