Scrapbooking Student - Lesson #1

The last few weeks have brought a lot of changes to our household but all of the good.  Our oldest started Kindergarten, I can't believe these last almost 6 years have flown by as fast as they have.  Clara is an absolutely wonderful kid and super creative.  I thought, let's teach this big girl how to scrapbook!
My Scrapbooking Student

Clara was all for stepping up to the task.  While I am very excited that Clara has obtained her creative bug from me, she also obtained the "I can figure it out myself" gene.  It still startles me to see so much of myself in her.

So scrapbooking lesson #1 commenced. When I print out pictures, I try to organize them as they would fall within the scrapbook. This allows me to flip through a scrapbook and pick out pages to do based on how I feel at the moment.  Clara chose to scrapbook a March evening where we broke out this awesome cardboard house. The kids colored all over it and played inside.

Step 1) Organize the pictures on the 12x12 page. In this case, we are doing a two page spread.

Step 2) Picking out the stamp sets
Step 2) Pick out the stamp sets and colors. I decided to start with straight up stamping since I know she was itching to get her hands on some. I happened to choose two Stampin Up! sets that are retired:
  1. Elementry Essentials
  2. Bold Butterfly - this is the stamp set we used to decorate the cardboard house
Colors:
  1. Rich RazzleDazzle
  2. Melon Mambo
  3. Crushed Curry (Retired)
Step 3) Stamping and getting to work
Step 3)  Start Stampin.  We decorated a Whisper White paper with a mix of butterflies and flowers. Clara definitely had a vision that she wanted to execute. I taught her how to properly ink the stamps and how to create a clean impression on the paper. She definitely got a hang of it by the time she was done!

Step 4) Creating a Title
I gave Clara a few options and she went with "Coloring Crazy".  She assembled all the pieces after I stamped the letters for her. I used this AWESOME set that got me started using Stampin' Up. It is a very old set called:  AlphaBuilder.

Step 5) Assemble! We laid everything out together and I gave her some tape and let her go to work. She took her time assembling the page and when it was done it looked amazing! She wanted to embellish one area with flowers and I let her take over. I think it came out great!

How do you get your kids involved with your scrapbooking?  Next up is creating a page with the Cricut with Clara.  She is very excited about this idea!

Sunflowers! For Peachy Keen Stamps Challenge #36

Welcome to my first Peachy Keen Scrapbooking Challenge entry.  The challenge was to create an entry that followed a sketch and color palette.  When I scrapbook, I have the pictures printed and I organize them in the actual scrapbook. I flipped through the pages and I thought my sunflower pictures would be perfect for this color palette and I am trying to get the summer pictures done. Love it when you can kill two birds with one stone.

Below is the color palette and the sketch.

Since I scrapbook more than anything else, I made a 12x12 page for the entry.  And here it is:

Recipe:

Stampin' Up: Whisper White, Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, Pacific Point
Cricut: Create a Critter, Gypsy Font
Peachy Keen: Everyday Character Face Assortment

I don't have Pumpkin Pie in 12x12 so I had to improvise there with a stack of paper I have been trying to finish out for about the last decade.  The green were some scraps that I had laying around.  I searched through my Gypsy and did not find a sunflower on a cartridge that I had so I improvised and made a flower out of a sun and I think the smiley faces on them are just too cute.
